Hadith of the week
Imam al-Ridha (as) said: "The Day of Ghadir is more renowned in the heavens than it is on the earth. A single dirham spent on this day for your believing brothers who recognize the truth is equal to one thousand dirhams. Therefore, be generous to your brothers on this day, and bring joy to every believing man and woman.” By Allah! If people truly knew the merit of this day as it really is, the angels would shake hands with them ten times every day. Were it not that I dislike being lengthy, I would have mentioned such virtues of this day, and what Allah grants to those who recognize it, that they cannot be counted or enumerated.”
(Al-Gharat by Ibrahim al-Thaqafi)

Grief & Depression Management In Islam
by Tahir Ridha Jaffer
Grief and depression are common experiences in the lives of most individuals in the world. While grief is somewhat easy to spot, with tearing eyes, sulky frowns and sad faces being a sure give-away that someone is unhappy about something, depression is more obscure. People usually keep their depression a secret, perhaps because they think it may be regarded a weakness of mind. However, depression can be an overwhelming burden, especially when it is recurrent. Recurrent depression is a cause of other common problems among the youth such as substance abuse. Of course, the most adverse sequela of depression is suicide, which has been named the second leading cause of death among adolescents. While there are numerous books on the subject of depression and grief, few, if any at all, have been written in English from the Islamic perspective. It is hoped that this work proves beneficial to Muslim readers who are suffering from grief or depression in their lives.
