Among the companions of the Prophet (saw), there is no bigger liar than Abu Hurayra al-Dawsi. Our opponents commonly defy us to provide a clear example of him lying, as they have a litany of absurd excuses to justify the unusual number of reports he narrated, even when one considers the very short time he spent with the Prophet (saw). Even so, we shall present one of the most clear examples of his lies.

Abu Hurayra’s lie that he met Ruqayyah bt. Rasulallah (saw)

We read in Ahmad b. Hanbal’s Fadha'il al-Sahaba Vol 1, pg. 510, Hadith # 834:

834 - حَدَّثَنَا الْهَيْثَمُ قَالَ: نا الْخَلِيلُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْبَغَوِيُّ قَالَ: نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ الْحَرَّانِيُّ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحِيمِ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَبِي أُنَيْسَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنِ الْمُطَّلِبِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: دَخَلْتُ عَلَى رُقَيَّةَ ابْنَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم امْرَأَةِ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ وَفِي يَدِهَا مُشْطٌ، فَقَالَتْ: خَرَجَ مِنْ عِنْدِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم آنِفًا رَجَّلْتُ رَأْسَهُ، فَقَالَ: «كَيْفَ تَجِدِينَ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ؟» قُلْتُ: كَخَيْرِ الرِّجَالِ، قَالَ: «أَكْرِمِيهِ؛ فَإِنَّهُ ‌مِنْ ‌أَشْبَهِ ‌أَصْحَابِي بِي خُلُقًا» .

Al-Haytham narrated to us, saying: Al-Khalil b. Amr al-Baghawi narrated to us, saying: Muhammad b. Salama al-Harrani Abu Abd Allah narrated to us, from Abu Abd al-Rahim, from Zayd b. Abi Unaysa, from Muhammad b. Abd Allah, from al-Muttalib, from Abu Hurayra who said: “I entered upon Ruqayya, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (SAW), the wife of Uthman b. Affan, and she had a comb in her hand. She said: ‘The Messenger of Allah (SAW) just left me. I had combed his hair.’ He said, ‘How do you find Abu Abd Allah?’ I replied, ‘He is one of the best men.’ He (the Prophet) said, ‘Honor him, for he is one of my companions who most closely resembles me in character.’”

The editor of the book certified the hadith, and it was also recorded in Fadha'il al-Sahaba Vol. 1 pg. 513 to 514 Hadith # 840, as well as the following sources:

Al-Dhahabi commented on the report that the chain of transmission is sahih, however the content is unacceptable as Ruqayyah died in the year 2 AH while Abu Hurayra became Muslim in the year 7 AH. It is therefore impossible that Abu Hurayra met Ruqayyah (AS), let alone heard a hadith from her. Al-Hakim even noted this discrepancy, but could not understand how this could be, as he had an alternative chain to Abu Hurayra. Being a sunni, al-Hakim could not accept that Abu Hurayra is the fabricator of this story, but we alhamdulillah have already affirmed that assuming all the sahaba are honest is an erroneous belief.

Thus it is clear that Abu Hurayra made this story up, as well as the report he attributed to her from the Prophet (SAW), and thus we conclude that this man was a fabricator.

Abu Hurayra attributes his own opinion to the Prophet (saw)

One of the more humorous examples of Abu Hurayra’s clear fabrication of Hadith can be found in Ahl al-Sunnah’s most authentic source of Hadith. We read in Sahih al-Bukhari 5355:

Narrated Abu Huraira: "The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'The best alms is that which is given when one is rich, and a giving hand is better than a taking one, and you should start first to support your dependents.' A wife says, 'You should either provide me with food or divorce me.' A slave says, 'Give me food and enjoy my service." A son says, "Give me food; to whom do you leave me?" The people said, "O Abu Huraira! Did you hear that from Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) ?" He said, "No, it is from my own self."

A more accurate translation of Abu Hurayra’s answer would in fact be “It is from the bag of Abu Hurayra.”

Ibn ‘Abd al-Barr left little doubt as to what this statement means, as he recorded in Jami’ Bayan al-Ilmi wa Fadhleh Vol 2, pg. 787, Report # 1607:

1607 - وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا قَالَ فِي شَيْءٍ بِرَأْيِهِ قَالَ: «‌هَذَا ‌مِنْ ‌كَيْسِي» ذَكَرَهُ ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ بِلَالٍ، عَنْ كَثِيرِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ وَلِيدِ بْنِ رَبَاحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ 

1607 - From Abu Hurayra: Whenever he gave an opinion on something based on his own judgment, he would say: "This is from my bag." This was mentioned by Ibn Wahb, from Sulayman b. Bilal, from Kathir b. Zayd, from Walid b. Rabaah, from Abu Hurayra.

Thus we see that Abu Hurayra would narrate his own opinion, and falsely attribute it to Rasulallah (saw).

Abu Hurayra was suspected to be a liar in his own lifetime

Interestingly, Abu Hurayra’s reputation as a liar was widespread even in his own time. We read in Sunan Ibn Majah 363:

'I saw Abu Hurairah hitting his forehead with his hand and saying: "O people of Iraq! Do you claim that I would tell a lie against the Messenger of Allah so that it may be more convenient for you and a sin upon me?' I bear witness that I heard the Messenger of Allah say: 'If a dog licks the vessel of anyone of you, let him wash it seven times.'"

Note that this report was authenticated by al-Albani in his Sahih Sunan Ibn Majah.

We see in this report that even during his own lifetime Abu Hurayra’s reputation as a liar was so well known and widespread that he himself had to address it.

‘Aisha objects to the way Abu Hurayra used to narrate Hadith

We read in Sahih Muslim 2493:

'A'isha reported: Don't you feel surprised at Abu Huraira? He came (one day) and sat beside the nook of my apartment and began to narrate (the hadith of Allah's Apostle). I was hearing while I was engaged in extolling Allah (reciting Subhan Allah) constantly. He stood up before I finished my repetition of Subhan Allah. if I were to meet him I would have warned him in stern words that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) did not speak so quickly as you talk.

Should our opponents wish to argue that this report does not have any negative indication, we would simply ask our opponents why their beloved Imam Bukhari chose to censor it? We read in Sahih al-Bukhari 3567, 3568:

Narrated `Aisha: The Prophet (ﷺ) used to talk so clearly that if somebody wanted to count the number of his words, he could do so. Narrated `Urwa bin Az-Zubair: `Aisha said (to me), "Don't you wonder at Abu so-and-so who came and sat by my dwelling and started relating the traditions of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) intending to let me hear that, while I was performing an optional prayer. He left before I finished my optional prayer. Had I found him still there. I would have said to him, 'Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) never talked so quickly and vaguely as you do.' "

Humorously, Abu Hurayra did not take Aisha’s criticism without responding. We read in We read in al-Mustadrak ala al-Sahihain, Vol 3, pg. 582 Hadith # 6160:

6160 - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حَمْشَاذَ الْعَدْلُ، ثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ شَبِيبٍ الْمَعْمَرِيُّ، ثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ، ثَنَا خَالِدُ بْن سَعِيدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْعَاصِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّهَا دَعَتْ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، فَقَالَتْ لَهُ: «يَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، مَا هَذِهِ الْأَحَادِيثُ الَّتِي تَبْلُغُنَا أَنَّكَ تُحَدِّثُ بِهَا عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، هَلْ سَمِعْتَ إِلَّا مَا سَمِعْنَا؟ وَهَلْ رَأَيْتَ إِلَّا مَا رَأَيْنَا؟» قَالَ: «يَا أُمَّاهُ، إِنَّهُ كَانَ يَشْغَلُكِ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم الْمَرْآةُ ‌وَالْمُكْحُلَةُ، ‌وَالتَّصَنُّعُ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، وَإِنِّي وَاللَّهِ مَا كَانَ يَشْغَلُنِي عَنْهُ شَيْءٌ» هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحُ الْإِسْنَادِ، وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ "

6160 - 'Ali b. Hamshadh al-'Adl narrated to us, al-Hasan b. 'Ali b. Shabib al-Ma'mari narrated to us, 'Abdullah b. Salih al-Azdi narrated to us, Khalid b. Sa'id b. 'Amr b. Sa'id b. al-'As narrated to us, from his father, from 'Aisha that she called for Abu Hurayra and said to him: "O Abu Hurayra, what are these hadiths that we hear you narrating from the Prophet (SAW)? Did you hear anything that we did not hear? And did you see anything that we did not see?" He replied: "O my mother, you were occupied with the mirror and the kohl, and with preparing yourself for the Prophet (SAW), while by Allah, nothing occupied me from him."

This is an authentic hadith with a sound chain of narration, though it was not included by the two (i.e., al-Bukhari and Muslim).

Al-Hakim graded this tradition Sahih, and al-Dhahabi agreed, as did Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani in Fath al-Bari under ‘Manaqib Jafar b. Abi Talib’.

Abu Hurayra was an enemy of ‘Ali (as)

It was narrated that Zaid b. Arqam said:

“Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said regarding Ali, Fatima, Hasan and Husayn (AS): I am at peace with those with whom you make peace and I am at war with those with whom you make war”

Darussalam weakened this hadith. According to Islamqa, this is due to Sabih the servant of Umm al-Muminin Umm Salama (AS) being Majhul: this is false as Ibn Hajar said he is maqbul and Dhahabi said he is thiqah. Ibn Hibban also authenticated him in Kitab al-Thiqat Vol 2, pg. 237, Bio # 1869

We also read this report with an alternative chain to none other than Abu Hurayra in Fadha’il al-Sahaba, Vol 2, pg. 767, Hadith # 1350.

Footnote gives other versions of this hadith. The hadith is weakened due to Talid b. Sulayman who is weakened because he was a rafidhi. He is weakened for insulting the first three but anyone who curses ‘Ali can be thiqah?

We see that Abu Hurayra knew that fighting against the Ahl al-Bayt was equivalent to fighting against the Prophet (SAW) himself. Lets see what Abu Hurayra did with this knowledge. We read in Tarikh Ibn Abi Khaythama Vol. 1, pg. 289, Hadith # 2214:

حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ مَعْرُوف، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا ضَمْرَة، عَنْ بِلَال الْمَكِّيِّ؛ قال: كان أبو هُرَيْرَةَ مع مُعَاوِيَة بصِفِّين، فكان يقول: لئن أَرْمِي فِيهِمْ بسهمٍ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِن حُمُرِ النَّعم؛ يَعْنِي: أهلَ الْعِرَاقِ.

Harun b. Ma'ruf narrated to us, saying: Dhamra informed us, from Bilal al-Makki. He said: Abu Hurayra was with Mu’awiya in Siffin, and he used to say, "If I shoot an arrow among them, it is more beloved to me than the red camels," meaning the people of Iraq.

What makes this all even funnier is that some of our opponents are so ignorant and misguided that they have even begun claiming that Abu Hurayra did not participate in the fitna at all!

‘Umar refers to Abu Hurayra as an enemy of Allah

قال: أخبرنا عمرو بن الهيثم قال: حدثنا أبو هلال عن محمد بن سيرين عن أبي هريرة قال: كنت عاملا بالبحرين فقدمت على عمر بن الخطاب فقال: عدوا لله وللإسلام. أو قال: عدوا لله ولكتابه سرقت مال الله. قلت: لا ولكني عدو من عاداهما. خيل لي تناتجت وسهام لي اجتمعت. فأخذ مني اثني عشر ألفا. قال ثم أرسل إلي بعد أن ألا تعمل؟ قلت: لا. قال: لم؟ أليس قد عمل يوسف؟ قلت: يوسف نبي ابن نبي فأخشى من عملكم ثلاثا أو اثنتين. قال: أفلا تقول خمسا؟ قلت: لا. أخاف أن يشتموا عرضي ويأخذوا مالي ويضربوا ظهري. وأخاف أن أقول بغير حلم وأقضي بغير علم.

He said: ʿAmr b. al-Haytham told us, saying: Abu Hilal narrated to us from Muhammad b. Sirin, from Abu Hurayra, who said: "I was working in Bahrain, and when I came to ʿUmar b. al-Khattab, he said, 'Enemy of God and Islam.' Or he said, 'Enemy of God and His Book, you have stolen the wealth of God!' I replied, 'No, but I am the enemy of those who are enemies of them. I had horses that bred, and shares that accumulated.' He took twelve thousand from me. Later, he sent for me again, asking, 'Won’t you work (for me)?' I said, 'No.' He asked, 'Why not? Didn’t Yusuf (Joseph) work?' I replied, 'Yusuf was a prophet, the son of a prophet. I fear three things from your work three things, or perhaps two.' He said, 'Why don't you say five?' I replied, 'No. I fear that they will insult my honor, take my wealth, and whip my back. And I fear that I will speak without wisdom and judge without knowledge.'"

• [21735] أخبرنا عَبْدُ الرَّزاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ اسْتَعْمَلَ أَبَا هُرَيرَةَ عَلَى الْبَحْرَيْنِ، فَقَدِمَ بِعَشَرة آلَافٍ، فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ: اسْتَأْثَرتَ بِهَذِهِ ‌الْأَمْوَالِ ‌يَا ‌عَدُوَّ ‌اللَّهِ، وَعَدُوَّ كِتَابِهِ، قَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ: لَسْتُ عَدُوُّ اللَّهِ، وَلَا عَدُوَّ كِتَابِهِ، وَلَكِنِّي عَدُوُّ مَن عَادَاهُمَا، قَالَ: فَمِنْ أَيْنَ هِيَ لَكَ؟ قَالَ: خَيْلٌ لِي تَنَاتَجَتْ، وَغَلَّةُ رَقِيقٍ لِي، وَأَعْطِيَةٌ تَتَابَعَتْ عَلَيَّ، فَنَظَرُوه، فَوجَدُوهُ كَمَا قَالَ، قَالَ: فَلَمَّا كَانَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ، دَعَاهُ عُمَرُ لِيَسْتَعْمِلَه، فَأَبَى أَنْ يَعْمَلَ لَه، فَقَالَ: أَتَكْرَهُ الْعَمَلَ وَقَدْ طَلَبَ الْعَمَلَ مَنْ كَانَ خَيْرًا مِنْكَ يُوسُفُ؟ قَالَ: إِنَّ يُوسُفَ نَبِيٌّ ابْنُ نَبِيٍّ ابْنِ نَبِيٍّ، وَأَنَا أَبُو هُرَيْرة بْنُ أُمَيْمَةَ أَخْشَى ثَلَاثًا وَاثْنَيْنِ، قَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ: أَفَلَا قُلْتَ: خَمْسًا؟ قَالَ: لَا، أَخْشَى أَنْ أَقُولَ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ، وَأَقْضِيَ بِغَيْرِ حكْم، وَيُضْرَبَ ظَهْرِي، وَيُنْتَزَعَ مَالِي، وَيُشْتَمَ عِرضي.

It was narrated from ʿAbd al-Razzaq, from Ma'mar, from Ayyub, from Ibn Sirin, that ʿUmar b. al-Khattab appointed Abu Hurayra as the governor of Bahrain. When he returned, he brought ten thousand (dirhams). ʿUmar said to him, "You have appropriated this wealth for yourself, O enemy of God and His Book!" Abu Hurayra replied, "I am not an enemy of God, nor an enemy of His Book, but I am an enemy of those who oppose them." ʿUmar asked, "So where did you get this wealth?" He replied, "I have horses that have bred, slaves that have generated income, and gifts that came to me successively." They examined his case and found it as he had said.

Later, ʿUmar called him again to appoint him for another position, but Abu Hurayra refused. ʿUmar said to him, "Do you dislike work when someone better than you, Yusuf (Joseph), sought it?" Abu Hurayra replied, "Yusuf was a prophet, the son of a prophet, the son of a prophet, and I am just Abu Hurayra, the son of Umayma. I fear three things and two more." ʿUmar asked, "Why didn’t you say five?" He replied, "No, I fear that I will speak without knowledge, judge unjustly, have my back whipped, my wealth confiscated, and my honor insulted."

3327 - أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الْمُزَكِّي بِمَرْوَ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ رَوْحٍ الْمَدَاينِيُّ، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، أَنْبَأَ هِشَامُ بْنُ حَسَّانَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَة رضي الله عنه، قَالَ: قَالَ لِي عُمَرُ: يَا عَدُوَّ اللَّهِ وَعَدُوَّ الْإِسْلَامِ خُنْتَ مَالَ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: لَسْتُ عَدُوَّ اللَّهِ، وَلَا عَدُوَّ الْإِسْلَامِ، وَلَكِنِّي عَدُوُّ مَنْ عاداهُمَا، وَلَمْ أَخُنْ مَالَ اللَّهِ، وَلَكِنَّهَا أَثْمَانُ إِبِلِي، وَسِهَامٌ اجْتَمَعَتْ. قَالَ: فَأَعَادَهَا عَلَيَّ وَأَعَدْتُ عَلَيْهِ هَذَا الكَلامَ، قَالَ: فَغَرَّمَنِي اثْنَيْ عَشَرَ أَلْفًا، قَالَ: فَقُمْتُ فِي صَلَاةِ الْغَدَاةِ، فَقُلْتُ: اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِأَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فَلَما كانَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ أَرَادَنِي عَلَى الْعَمَلِ، فَأَبَيْتُ عَلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ: وَلِمَ وَقَدْ سَأَل يُوسُفُ الْعَمَلَ وَكَانَ خَيْرًا مِنْكَ؟ فَقُلْتُ: إِنَّ يُوسُفَ نَبِيٌّ، ابْنُ نَبِيٍّ، ابْن نَبِيٍّ، ابْنِ نَبِيٍّ، وَأَنَا ابْنُ أُمَيْمَةَ وَأنَا أَخَافُ ثَلَاثًا وَاثْنَتَيْنِ قَالَ: أَوَلَا تَقُولُ خَمْسًا؟ قُلْتُ: لَا قَالَ: فَمَا هُنَّ؟ قُلْتُ: «أَخَافُ أَنْ أَقُولَ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ، وَأَنْ أُفْتِيَ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ، وَأَنْ يُضْرَب ظَهْري، وَأَنْ يُشْتَمَ عِرْضِي، وَأَنْ يُؤْخَذَ مَالِي بِالضَّرْبِ» هَذَا حَدِيثٌ بِإِسْنَادٍ صَحِيحٍ عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ وَلَمْ يُخْرِجَاهُ "

3327 - Abu Bakr Muhammad b. Ahmad Al-Muzaki from Marw informed me, Abdullah b. Ruh Al-Madaini narrated to us, Yazid b. Harun narrated to us, Hisham b. Hasan reported to me, from Muhammad b. Sirin, from Abu Huraira who said: Umar said to me, 'O enemy of Allah and enemy of Islam, you betrayed Allah's wealth.' I said, 'I am not an enemy of Allah or Islam, but I am an enemy to those who oppose them. I did not betray Allah's wealth; rather, it was the prices of my camels and the gathering of arrows.' He said, 'I repeated it to him, and he repeated this statement.' He fined me twelve thousand. I stood in the morning prayer and said, 'O Allah, forgive Amir al-Mu'minin.' After that, he wanted to assign me a task, and I refused. He said, 'Why? Didn't Yusuf seek employment, and he was better than you?' I said, 'Yusuf was a prophet, the son of a prophet, the grandson of a prophet, and the great-grandson of a prophet. I am the son of Ummamah, and I have three fears and two more.' He asked, 'Or don't you say five?' I said, 'No.' He said, 'What are they?' I said, 'I fear speaking without knowledge, giving fatwa without knowledge, being struck on my back, my honor being insulted, and my wealth being seized.'"

al-Hakim and al-Dhahabi both agreed that the Hadith is Sahih.

These reports all confirm that ‘Umar called Abu Hurayra an enemy of Allah and an enemy of Islam, and that he was accused of embezzling funds by none other than ‘Umar. If our opponents would like to argue that Umar simply made a mistake, we would remind them of the opt repeated merit which their sheikhs quote every Friday; We read in Sunan Abi Dawud 2962:

Narrated Abu Dharr: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: Allah, the Exalted, has placed truth on Umar's tongue and he speaks it.

We also read in Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3682

Narrated Nafi': from Ibn 'Umar, that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Indeed Allah has put the truth upon the tongue and in the heart of 'Umar."

We would also remind them of the following Hadith in Sahih Muslim 61:

It is reported on the authority of Abu Dharr that he heard the Messenger of Allah (SAW) saying:

No person who claimed knowingly anyone else as his father besides (his own) committed nothing but infidelity, and he who made a claim of anything, which (in fact) did not belong to him, is not amongst us; he should make his abode in Fire, and he who labeled anyone with unbelief or called him the enemy of Allah, and he was in fact not so, it rebounded on him.

So we would ask our opponents; was ‘Umar wrong to call Abu Hurayra an enemy of Allah? If so, then ‘Umar was the enemy of Allah. Should they choose to argue that ‘Umar was correct, then we ask our opponents why then the enemy of Allah is their biggest source of Hadith?

‘Umar warned Abu Hurayra to cease his narration of Hadith

It may surprise our opponents to know that ‘Umar not only disliked Abu Hurayra being a governor, but he also disliked that he narrate Hadith. We read in Tarikh Abi Zur’ah al-Dimashqi pg. 270:

حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ زُرْعَةَ الرُّعَيْنِيُّ قال: حَدَّثَنَا مَرْوَانُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ قال: حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ السَّائِبِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ يَقُولُ لِأَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ: لَتَتْرُكَنَّ الْحَدِيثِ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى الله عليه وسلم أو لألحقنك بِأَرِضِ دَوْسٍ. وَقَالَ لِكَعْبٍ: لَتَتْرُكَنَّ الْأَحَادِيثَ، أَوْ لَأُلْحِقَنَّكَ بأرضِ الْقِرَدَةِ.

Narrated by Muhammad b. Zura'ah al-Ru'ayni, who said: Marwan b. Muhammad narrated to us, who said: Sa'id b. Abd al-Aziz narrated to us, from Isma'il b. 'Ubaydullah, from al-Sa'ib b. Yazid, who said: I heard Umar b. al-Khattab saying to Abu Huraira, "You will abandon narrating about the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, or I will exile you to the land of Daws." And he said to Ka'b, "You will abandon narrating or I will exile you to the land of apes/monkeys."

Shu’ayb al-Arna’ut certified this tradition in Musnad Ahmad b. Hanbal Vol 12, pg. 10. A similar report can be found in Tarikh al-Medina Vol. 3, pg. 12, Hadith # 1361.

We once again would remind our opponents that in their belief ‘Umar only speaks the truth. Why then do they accept traditions from a man who ‘Umar explicitly warned not to narrate Hadith?
